How to import CSV data

Fineyo allows you to import transactions from other apps using a CSV file. This makes it easy to migrate your existing financial data into Fineyo without manually re-entering transactions.

With iOS 17 or later, Fineyo introduces integration with Apple Wallet / Apple Pay using Shortcuts. This is a quick, almost-automatic way to get your Apple Pay purchases into Fineyo right after you pay.

How to import data

  • Open Settings → Data → Import data.

  • Download the sample CSV file to see the expected format.

  • Upload your CSV file.

You can upload files exported from other apps even if their format is different. During the import process you will be able to map columns and adjust configuration so the data matches Fineyo’s format.

Expected columns

The CSV file may contain the following columns:

  • Date

    • Required.

    • Any date format is supported. Fineyo will try to detect the format automatically, but you can manually specify the format during import if needed.

  • Amount

    • Required.

    • Only comma or dot can be used as the decimal separator. Thousand separators are not supported.

    • Positive value → transaction is treated as income

    • Negative value → transaction is treated as expense

  • Main currency

    • Optional.

    • Currency code for the main account currency. If not provided, app currency will be used.

  • Currency

    • Optional.

    • If provided, this will be treated as the transaction currency. The amount will be converted to the main currency. If the same as the main currency, it has no effect.

  • Exchange rate

    • Optional.

    • Used when converting from Currency to Main currency. • Ignored if Currency is not provided or equals Main currency

    • If not provided, Fineyo will try to use exchange rates from the app settings

    • If no rate is found, it will fall back to 1

  • Category

    • Optional. Fineyo will create a new category if it does not exist. The category type (income or expense) is determined automatically based on the Amount value.

    • If not provided, the Fallback category configuration will be used.

  • Account

    • Optional.

    • A new account will be created automatically if it does not exist.

  • Payee

    • Optional.

    • A new payee will be created automatically if it does not exist.

  • Tags

    • Optional.

    • Comma-separated list of tag names. New tags will be created automatically if needed.

  • Note

    • Optional.

    • Transaction note.

  • Repeats

    • Optional.

    • Supported values: daily, weekly, monthly, annual.

    • If provided, the transaction will be created as a recurring transaction.

Validation

After configuring the import settings, press Validate.

Fineyo will analyze the file and show:

  • number of valid rows

  • number of failed rows

Rows that failed validation will appear at the bottom with details explaining what needs to be fixed.

If at least one row passes validation, the Validate button will change to Import.

Press Import to import all valid rows.

After the process finishes, Fineyo will show a notification with the import results.
